When your service terminates, your email account will terminated too. Once the account closes, the data inside will be lost. So, it is imperative that you extract messages, addresses, or logins BEFORE you terminate your service. If you use Outlook, Apple Mail, or another Email client, you may be able to complete this with a single export process. Otherwise, you'll have to manually select emails and forward them to a new source like Gmail or Yahoo Mail.
For anyone who chooses to switch to Gmail, here is a step-by-step guide for migrating your old email to the new account:
Step 1: Open the right settings page
In Gmail:
- Click the ⚙️ (top right)
- Click “See all settings”
- Go to “Accounts and Import”
Step 2: Import your old email + contacts
Look for:
👉 “Import mail and contacts”
- Click it
- A popup opens
- Enter your old ISP email address
- Click Continue
- Sign in to your ISP email when prompted
Then you’ll see options:
- ✅ Import contacts
- ✅ Import mail
- ✅ Import new mail for next 30 days (leave this checked)
Click Start import
✔ This runs in the background (can take hours or a couple days)
