Job Description

To develop planned communications through graphic design, desktop publishing, technical writing, photography, social media and web page editing. Administer the Cooperative’s Energy STORE, satellite internet, and public relations programs.
Full-time, Exempt, Staff-Level Position.
Responsible to and under the direct supervision of the Chief Operating Officer.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:  Minimum of a Bachelor Degree in Communications or Public Relations (or equivalents) and three (3) years’ experience or an Associate of Applied Science Degree in a related discipline and at least five (5) years’ work experience in a related position.  Completion of NRECA’s Certified Cooperative Communicator Program within two (2) years is preferred.
(a) Shall be familiar with Cooperative Bylaws, Policies, rules, regulations, and procedures.
(b) Stays informed of general Cooperative issues and attends related training classes.
(c) Must be highly proficient in the use of personal computers and programs including Microsoft Office Suite, graphic editing, desktop publishing, webpage maintenance software, HTML, and general office equipment.
(d) Excellent skills in written and verbal communication, including English composition, spelling, grammar, and punctuation, and public speaking.  Ability to communicate technical data in a clear and concise manner.
(e) General knowledge of residential energy use and rate schedules is desirable.
(f) Must be proficient in the use of SLR digital and video cameras, photography and videography.
(g) Must demonstrate honesty, integrity, confidentiality, dependability, and flexibility along with initiative and motivation to organize and complete tasks and meet deadlines, acting independently and with minimum supervision and direction.
(h) Shall perform duties and assignments, and conduct self in such a manner as to reflect credit on the Cooperative and contribute to an increasingly better understanding and harmonious relations with the members and general public.
(i) A professional appearance is important along with excellent skills in human relations with the ability to work as a team member.
(j) Promotes and follows safe practices, procedures, and safety rules and participates in scheduled Safety Meetings.
(k) Must be physically able to sit or stand at a computer workstation for long periods of time using repetitive hand/arm motion.
(l) A valid driver’s license in their state of residency is preferred.
(a) Assists the Chief Operating Officer in maintaining harmonious relations with the members.
(b) Supervises, evaluates and is responsible for the activities of all personnel assigned to them.
(c) Plans, develops, and implements the overall marketing plan for the Cooperative and its subsidiary to ensure achievement of the Cooperative’s strategic objectives.
(d) Performs the writing, layout and publication of the Cooperative’s Ruralite Magazine pages, bill inserts and other external and internal communications.
(e) Prepares Member Services correspondence, reports and other material as necessary.
(f) Administers the Energy Store, including product sales and educating and assisting members.
(g) Oversees the Cooperative energy efficiency programs, including processing any energy efficiency rebates.
(h) Participates in local economic and community development activities to expand and improve the economic climate within the Cooperative’s service area.
(i) Assists with the Cooperative’s Key Accounts Management Program including both existing and prospective key accounts in coordination with the COO.
(j) Leads the preparations for the Annual Meeting and Town Meetings and performs promotional activities, including safety demonstrations, Youth Rally Program, and programs for civic groups, organizations, and events.
(k) Assists members with residential high-bill concerns and analysis of prior usage patterns.
(l) Oversees the Cooperative’s satellite internet service.
(m) Updates and conducts general maintenance of the Cooperative’s webpage and social media including Facebook and Twitter.
(n) Is the primary contact for Cooperative public relations and the media including local and regional newspapers, radio, and television stations
(o) Performs any other duties as assigned
