30 Years - Kevin Cromer, Journeyman Lineworker

Lineworkers in Clearwater Power’s service territory cover rough terrain and take on inclement weather to keep the power on. It’s one of the reasons Kevin Cromer finds satisfaction in his work. Overcoming challenges to get a job done while providing community service has driven Kevin’s work at Clearwater Power for the last 3 decades.
“Each storm brings new challenges—lines and poles are torn down in different ways,” Kevin says. “It’s never the same, and the pressure is on to get the power restored. But, when you’ve managed to get through the storm and restore the power, it’s very rewarding.”
While some days are mentally and physically challenging, there are days when it doesn’t seem much like work at all. On near-perfect fall days in the remote parts of Anatone, Washington, Kevin appreciates the opportunity to spend time in the great outdoors and enjoy scenery he otherwise might not have the opportunity to see.
Kevin began his career at Clearwater Power somewhat by chance. He knew of the job opening, and 2 people who inspired him—his father, an electrician, and his brother, a lineworker—were already in the industry. Kevin started as a temporary employee, digging and testing poles, and then became a full-time employee at the Lewiston warehouse.
When a spot opened in the lineworker apprenticeship program, Kevin began training and eventually became a journeyman lineworker, his role for the past 25 years.
“I landed here,” he says. “It was a good fit, and the rest is history.”
After 30 years of service, Kevin is nearing retirement and has a piece of advice for younger employees: “Start saving for retirement when you’re young. You’ll get there before you know it.”
Kevin and his wife, Angela, have 3 grown children: 2 daughters and a son. His son is also a journeyman lineworker.
